Steve Pachella is Vice President, Head of Capital Markets at ReliaMax, the country’s leading private student loan platform as a service, which he joined in April of 2015. There he leads the company’s external funding and banking efforts including the establishment of the ReliaMax private and public asset backed securities program, sourcing of buyers and sellers for whole loan flow and portfolio sales, warehousing and table funding relationships, rating agency management of both transactions and the company as a whole, and strategic initiatives. Steve has over 15 years of capital markets experience in consumer, corporate, and esoteric assets with a particular focus on the private student loan and sub-prime auto markets, having closed over $25 billion in ABS transactions which have generated over $100 million in revenues. Prior to joining ReliaMax Steve was Managing Director of Strategy and Loss Mitigation at the monoline bond guarantor CIFG where he led the $25 billion commutation effort and $1.5 billion recapitalization of the company during financial crisis enabling CIFG to return to a positive regulatory capital position and stave off seizure by the NY State Insurance Department. Prior to the financial crisis at CIFG Steve was Director of the U.S. Consumer and Real Estate Assets Group tasked with sourcing and originating all non-mortgage consumer finance transactions. During the three year period from 2005 – 2008 he established CIFG’s student loan practice, growing it to almost $3.0 billion of insured exposure and $27 million in revenues. Steve started his career in the capital markets as Assistant Vice President at Financial Security Assurance, another monoline bond guarantor now owned by Assured Guaranty, where he concentrated on non-mortgage consumer assets with a primary focus on subprime auto, participating in over $20 billion of asset backed securitizations. He also has a strong background in the healthcare and surgical equipment industry. Steve holds an MBA in Finance from George Mason University and a BS in Marketing from Virginia Tech.
